Overview

The New Zealand Local Authority Traffic Institute or Trafinz represents local authority views on road safety and traffic management in New Zealand. It exists to lobby the government, to influence decision making on road safety and traffic issues. It also acts as a forum for collectively pursuing traffic issues of interest to local authorities, and for sharing information and advice.

The Trafinz Annual Conference is New Zealand’s premier forum for representatives from the road safety, transportation planning and traffic engineering community.  It stimulates debate and collaboration amongst road safety and transport sustainability peers.

At least 250 professionals and politicians attend this event, which has been running for over 60 years. The conference is an ideal opportunity for you to network, share and learn new ideas across a diverse range of related disciplines.

Theme

On 11 May 2011 the international community launched the global Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.  The "ACTION" theme for the Trafinz 2011 Conference is very well aligned to the global initiative.

The current road safety situation is a pandemic with devastating health, social and economic impacts that threaten other health and development gains that have been achieved in New Zealand and worldwide. Road safety is not a new issue, but over the last decade activity at the international level has gained new momentum.

The 2011-2020 global Decade of Action for Road Safety is also the timeframe for New Zealand's ‘Safer Journeys’ road safety strategy – which adopts the safe system approach to road safety.  It is time for you to take ACTION.
The 2011 conference will host a range of speakers to provide us with the latest information on the actions they are taking to achieve positive change in the following areas:

Interaction (Tuesday) - working with communities, multi-agency, multi-discipline

Transaction (Wednesday) - funding and investment

Reaction (Thursday) - responses to road safety and transport sustainability measures

Traction (Friday) - now is the time to act, get moving, and gain traction for a positive change

We will hear from leading politicians, policy makers, practitioners and academics from New Zealand and overseas, across a full spectrum of transport topics.

We will be challenging you to leave this conference with a clear plan of ACTION.
