The Needs Assessment Service Coordination (NASC) process has been around for more than 15 years. While the NASC process works well we wish to continue building and developing on successes at the same time offering further opportunities to enhance and develop increasing best practice service responses. It is the purpose of this conference to assist us in developing greater insight and understanding into the many challenges life transitions have for both disabled people in our community and for all of us in general as we encounter the challenges of moving through life.

The conference will provide you with opportunities for networking, informal problem-solving, time to spend with peers from around the nation, make new connections and strengthen already existing relationships.

Who / What is NASC / NASCA?

This event is hosted by NASCA NZ.  NASCA is the national body representing and providing Ministry of Health, Older Person’s NASC,  DHB NASC Managers and their organisations with opportunities for peer support and professional collaboration and development. As an Association it provides an invaluable forum for discussion and the development of national strategies to help ensure the best possible approaches to meeting the demands that running a NASC agency can present.

NASCA provides a unique opportunity to assist with the development of a nationally consistent approach within the disability sector.

Theme

Disabled people, the elderly, families, advocates, service providers, NASC staff and all key stakeholders, understand that the NASC process aims to support people to gain access to services and supports (natural and/or funded) for the purpose of making life easier. Times of transition in anyone’s life can pose a multitude of challenges and hurdles which can seem insurmountable, often involving crossing not only intersectoral boundaries but also internal mindshifts. This can be both daunting and demoralising at the same time as it is exciting and challenging.

Our theme wishes to open up some of the many threads of these issues for the benefit of all. A wide variety of presentations will endeavour to identify and demystify some of the issues through to workshops which aim to provide day to day practical suggestions. This year’s event will provide you with an opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.

Purpose

Ultimately the purpose of this event is to deepen our awareness of the struggles faced by disabled people and their loved ones as they encompass transitions at critical milestones. It will also offer opportunities for professionals in the field to be able to continue to identify (and make progress with) some of the challenges that times of transition can pose.

The conference will seek to meet this purpose by:
- Focusing on leadership development
- Investigating best practice
- Providing a forum for professional & skill development
- Offer practical day to day suggestions with a focus on transitions
